Our LAMS Bikes...
Our Honda CB125 is Ideal for your first rides on a normal motorcycle. It is light, easy to handle, and lets you get practice working the usual motorcycle controls. This bike is great for 80km/h zones, and tolerable for short highway stretches. Most riders will find a week pre-Qride supervised and a few days post Qride will be prepare them well for handling a larger bike.
The KTM 200 duke is a great little bike that is nimble, light, and great for freshly licenced or experienced learners. It is also a hoot to ride even for long term riders on a tight winding road. A throaty single cylinder, only weighing 130 kg, and ABS equipped it can help you build confidence before trying the heavier bikes.
The Kawasaki Z300 is a sweet bike to ride for those with a few weeks (500km) riding experience. Being on the smaller end of (parallel) 2 cylinder bikes it helps you get used to a bit more weight and power to match. Some may want to get a few weeks experience on this, or just try it before buying their own Z300 or (mechanically similar) Ninja 300. This bike likes to rev.
The Honda CB500F is a full sized bike with performance to match. It's parallel twin cylinder engine has fantastic mid range torque with a relatively low redline. This bike is ideal to get more experience on a bigger LAMS bike - or just for a great ride for experienced riders. We think most new riders should try a bigger LAMS bike like this before deciding to buy a smaller one.
The Suzuki Gladius SFV650U LAMS is as close to a full power bike you can get on an RE licence. We love V twins like this. It is a full size bike fitted with panniers. This one is only in this price range as we bought it on a 'deal' as old floor stock. This bike is great for getting the feel of a full size bike before going for your unrestricted licence. Its also a nice ride for the experienced as the LAMS limiting ECU doesn't restrict much below 7000rpm. The Yamaha XT250 is a good learner bike for road or for off road experience. It is quite short for a dirt bike, so taller people may find their knees a little too cramped. This is a nice simple air cooled fuel injected electric start single cylinder. Note there are extra tyre charges for enduro tyre use if off roading.
